Two weeks later, Princess Chio sent out the invitation of her grand ball to the farmers.King Ah Ma decided to do things the Ah Ma way and borrowed an outfit from Romeo whereas King Basket and King Yang-Yang took great pains to buy tailored suits with their hard-earned money to attend the ball. King Ah Ma looked at them and raised an eyebrow. They were just too excited. It was not like they could actually have a proper relationship with the Princess. It was forbidden. But they were, after all, stupidly lovestruck.

On the night of the ball, the three Kings walked into the ballroom, all feeling a sense of Déjà vu. Chandeliers hung on the high ceilings and enhanced the romantic atmosphere the orchestra was creating. King Basket walked in with a bouquet of fresh red roses picked from his private garden. After presenting it gallantly to the Princess, he flamboyantly knelt down and kissed her hand. Princess Chio smiled gently and thanked him for the beautiful roses. Behind them, King Yang-Yang watched, his heart lurching when he realised he had not prepared any gift.

All of a sudden, an idea struck him. He walked towards the stage where the musicians were playing. As he approached them, they raised their heads with questioning expressions on their faces. The conductor halted. King Yang-Yang smiled sweetly at him and whispered something in his ear.

“... Please,” King Yang-Yang said, his eyes pleading, looking straight into the conductor’s eyes.
(OMG! I’m thinking of Ren’s puppy eyes! So cuuuuuuuute! Uh, sorry for momentary manga craze.)

The conductor nodded.

“Oka-” he started.

“Thank you, thank you!” King Yang-Yang cried, hugging the conductor excitedly. Then he rushed off towards the musicians to tell them of his plans.

Meanwhile, the conductor stood stunned, blushing furiously as he placed a hand over his racing heart. What on earth was that? He’s a guy! Why is my face getting hot?! But he was so cute! I mean, I’m a guy, too, but still... He sneaked a peek at King Yang-Yang, who had sparkles in his eyes while he talked to the musicians. Then suddenly, as if he felt eyes on him, King Yang-Yang turned to look at the conductor, who was staring with his mouth open, gaping at him. King Yang-Yang smiled at him. There and then, the conductor flopped over onto the floor as his musicians raced towards him.
I’m seriously no match for him.

After the big commotion caused by the conductor fainting, King Yang-Yang panicked. The musicians were now taking care of their conductor and he was no longer able to continue with his plan. As he thought, he stared at the grand piano in front of him and an idea struck home. He started towards the piano. Then, he stood before the piano and projected his voice.

“Due to some circumstances, the musicians have taken off, I shall entertain everyone with my performance. This song is dedicated to Princess Chio.”

With that, King Yang-Yang smiled and prepared himself as he settled down on the piano bench. Everyone else gathered around the stage, curious at what sort of performance a mere farmer could come up with. He began to play the piano and sing.

“You froze me in place the first time I saw you.
My feelings are deep and my soul full of passion.
Why do I feel so strangely after one glance?
All those stories about love at first sight, maybe my mom was right.

Your smile was warm and reached from ear to ear.
Your laugh is contagious and warms every corner of my soul.
Why do I feel so connected after one glance?
I try and shake it but you already have a hold on my heart.

Your voice as resonant as a bass guitar and is felt throughout my heart.
It’s magical and soothing, transporting me to a place I have never been.
I try to hear the thoughts of my head but my heart whispers back, it is ok to love.

Your walk both sturdy and fast, it reflects your strength.
The vibrations of your surrounding energy engulf me.
I can see and feel the essence of who you are.
I want more but I am afraid, I know everything will be alright because I already love you.

Time has passed.
What will happen to us?
We are in different places in our lives.
Yet when I try to move on I cannot.
We are connected.
I hear it in your resonant voice.
You are my true soul mate.
The first time I saw you I knew it was true.
But yet I was still in limbo, afraid of what I feel.

Everything you are has already changed the way I feel about my life.
I want to let go of myself once again, I want to feel and know you again.
I am lost in a place where I feel nothing without you.
My dreams of you and I are all I have left.

I love you.”

The audience applauded with a certain frenzy. King Yang-Yang stood up to bow. Then, he looked up, straight into the eyes of Princess Chio and smiled. She smiled back and did a curtsy. Unknowingly, all these were seen by King Ah Ma, who had both his hands over the shoulders of Janice and Rosalie. A little distance away, he spotted Princess Chio entering the garden. Well well well, three can play the game, can’t we. Shall I join in?

“Here,” Rosalie said in her sickeningly-sugared tone of hers as she held a spoonful of pudding for King Ah ma, “Open up.”

King Ah Ma jerked away.

“Sorry, ladies. I have something I need to attend to. Be back in a minute,” he told them, holding up a finger.

Then he walked into the garden just in time to see Princess Chio seating by the fountain, a thoughtful expression on her face. King Ah Ma smiled to himself.

“What’s the host of the party doing out here all alone?” he spoke out loud.

Princess Chio started as she turned her head to look at him. Then she recovered from her shock and smiled.

“How do you explain yourself then?”

“I came out to ask if a beautiful lady would care to join me in a dance.” King Ah Ma bowed with a hand behind him, offering her the other.

Princess Chio laughed.

“Why, gladly.”

As she took his hand, he spun her into an amazing dance of waltz. The musicians had returned and were playing like nothing had happened after the huge spectacle caused by King Yang-Yang. King Ah Ma chuckled to himself. What an entertaining night it was!

The song ended and a slow song was played. They swayed slowly to the music.

“You know, you’re a good dancer,” she told him.

“Well, are you free this Tuesday night? We could always dance together once more,” he said softly, his deep voice whispering by her ear.

To her surprise, Princess Chio felt her cheeks grow hot. A faint blush had tinted her cheeks. King Ah Ma smiled inwardly.
She'll come.

“So, I'll see you Tuesday?”

She smiled and looked up into his eyes, “Maybe.”

“I’ll take that as a yes,” he said, before bowing and leaving to find the two ladies he had abandoned a while ago.

Behind him, Princess Chio sat down hard on by the fountain once more. Her heart was beating senselessly fast. Whatever could this mean? Then she gasped in realisation, looking once more at the man who had just left her and feeling her heartbeat quicken once more.
Love.. ?
